‘Jesus’ in The King of Kings
Angel Studios’ latest release, “The King of Kings,” takes a fresh approach to the story of Jesus, blending animation with a unique storytelling framework: the life of Christ told through the eyes of a grandmother sharing it with her grandson. Directed by South Korean animator Seong-Ho Jang and voiced by Oscar Isaac, the film opened to strong support, earning $1.9 million its first weekend in limited release.
Jang, known for “Baby Shark’s Big Movie,” brings a visually warm, storybook style to the film. “We wanted to make something beautiful, not just for Christian audiences, but for anyone curious about who Jesus is,” he said.
Pierce Brosnan, who voices the narrator, called the experience “deeply moving,” adding that the film “reminded me of the power of simple storytelling to stir the heart.”
Critics have praised the film’s creativity and reverence, while audiences have responded even more strongly: “The King of Kings” earned one of the highest audience scores ever recorded on Rotten Tomatoes.
With wider release on the horizon, Angel Studios continues to tap into a growing appetite for faith-forward stories told with artistic flair and sincerity.
