Characters ‘Elijah Peel’ and ‘Jessica’ in ‘Elijah Peel’

Elijah Peel,” the new drama from directors Nathan Ross Murphy and Kevin D. Sepe, begins near a familiar rock-star peak: stadium crowds, fame and a life coming apart behind the curtain. Robert Malcolm Cumming plays Elijah, a musician whose addiction and self-destruction finally catch up with him when a heart attack forces him into recovery. There, he meets Jessica (Evelyn Grace Kite), a terminally ill 9-year-old whose faith begins to challenge Elijah’s assumptions about hope, healing and purpose.

The story carries a personal connection for Sepe, who wrote, produced and composed the film, drawing from his own years of addiction, sobriety and renewed faith. Murphy co-directs, while Willie and Korie Robertson — whose 2023 film “The Blind” also dealt with addiction and redemption — serve as executive producers through eKKL Entertainment. The film opened in theaters Aug. 14.

“No matter how far down the line you are, there’s an opportunity to get better,” Sepe told The Christian Post. That idea gives “Elijah Peel” its center. Rather than treating rock bottom as the ending, the film looks at the slower work that comes next: recovery, forgiveness and learning to receive help from unexpected people.
