‘David’ in ‘House of David’

The new season of “House of David” opens October 5 on Prime Video’s Wonder Project channel, releasing its first two episodes before rolling out weekly.

Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of David’s victory over Goliath, shifting focus to his rise as a warrior amid the political turmoil of King Saul’s court, growing tension within his family, and David’s evolving friendship with Jonathan.

Co-creator Jon Gunn describes the premiere episode as “massive, epic,” noting that it highlights David’s transformation: “We’ve got weapons forged in fire, and David is going to be forged in fire this season.” Themes of loyalty, ambition and identity deepen as David is caught between his duty to Saul and his calling to become king.

Co-director Jon Erwin says he hopes the show inspires a deeper engagement with Scripture — even among those unfamiliar with the Bible. He adds, “Destination comes at a cost … Fame and success are complex things to navigate.”

Season 2 promises a quieter, more layered battle than simply with external foes: the real fight will be within hearts and kingdoms.
