Director D.J. Caruso is taking a fresh approach to the life of the Virgin Mary in his new Netflix film “Mary,” aiming to make her story relatable to modern audiences. Caruso’s vision centers on presenting Mary not only as a revered figure but also as a young woman navigating challenges that feel familiar to today’s youth.
“My goal was to see if I could present Mary in a beautiful way, in a way that a younger audience could see her and relate to her as not just this beautiful, iconic holy mother, but as a young girl who had to make sacrifices and struggle and deal with things that a lot of the contemporary youth are dealing with today,” Caruso explained.
