Pastor and author Derwin Gray is turning his attention to the wounds people often learn to live around instead of actually addressing.

His new book, “It’s Time to Heal: Four God-Given Steps to Restore What Life Has Shattered,” released September 8. Gray approaches healing as both a spiritual and emotional process, drawing on Scripture, personal experience and practical guidance for facing trauma, shame, burnout and other forms of pain.

The book is organized around the acronym HEAL: be honest about what happened, expect pain along the way, accept the past without allowing it to define the future and live from God’s love rather than trying to earn it. Gray also incorporates mental-health perspectives, making room for counseling and emotional care alongside spiritual formation.

Gray has been open about how his own approach to pain was shaped by his years in the NFL, where pushing through hurt was part of the culture. Eventually, he realized that carrying the same mindset into the rest of life had consequences for himself and the people around him.

“My hope is that my book becomes a companion for men (and women) who have carried their wounds alone for too long,” Gray said.
