Luke and Joel Smallbone from for King + Country
for KING + COUNTRY are back with “the most beautiful colours,” their fifth studio album and first full-length project since 2022’s “What Are We Waiting For?” Released September 18, the 10-song record grew out of an unusual season for brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone: time at home after years of near-constant touring and creative work.
That slower pace helped shape an album centered on hope, family and noticing God in everyday life. The duo describes the record as “a holy invitation to a defiant hope and a gentle reminder of the miraculous in our everyday lives.”
The project also brings in a few familiar faces. Model and musician Taylor Hill appears on “world on fire,” while Jessica Simpson joins the brothers on “my mosaic.” Joel and Luke’s wives, MŌRIAH and Courtney Smallbone, are featured on “ever & ever before,” giving the album an especially personal feel.
Luke has said recording at home gave the brothers a different way to approach the music and made the process one of their most enjoyable yet. Across the album, for KING + COUNTRY keep their cinematic pop sound while focusing on gratitude, identity, faith and the beauty that can still be found in complicated seasons.
