Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell is challenging Christians to take their faith seriously in his new book, “Contend: Standing Boldly for Biblical Truth While Winning the War Within,” released October 13.

The founder and lead pastor of Atlanta’s 2819 Church draws from the New Testament book of Jude to address what he sees as growing complacency within Christianity. He encourages believers to hold firmly to biblical truth while confronting personal struggles like fear, pride and spiritual compromise.

“The call to follow Christ was never a call to passive belief,” Mitchell says. “Every believer must decide whether they will drift with the culture or stand firm in the faith.”

Speaking with The Dallas Weekly, Mitchell expressed concern about Christians becoming too comfortable with a watered-down version of the gospel. For him, defending the faith begins with personal surrender rather than simply confronting the surrounding culture.

Through “Contend,” Mitchell hopes to encourage Christians to move beyond passive belief and develop a more committed, authentic relationship with Jesus.
