‘Sarah’ in ‘Sarah’s Oil’

Amazon MGM Studios brings to the screen the true story of Sarah Rector — a girl who, at age 11, became one of America’s first Black female millionaires after discovering oil beneath her Oklahoma land.

Directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, the film balances history with hope. As Sarah insists there’s “oil beneath the barren land she’s allotted,” the story becomes one of perseverance, family loyalty and faith vindicated.

Nowrasteh said of the film, “This is really a movie about a family,” highlighting that the story is rooted not just in wealth, but in the bonds that carried Sarah through danger and uncertainty.

With a cast including Zachary Levi and Naya Desir-Johnson, “Sarah’s Oil” hopes to shed light on a lesser-known chapter of American history.

It’s not flashy — but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a story about heart, faith and the belief that hope can turn dry land into something much more.
