Mauro Borrelli’s “The Last Supper” presents Jesus’ final days through the eyes of his closest followers. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s painting, Borrelli originally envisioned the film taking place in a single room but found the story expanding as he explored the disciples’ experiences. “It’s a story of faith, betrayal and love. The disciples weren’t saints; they were human, struggling with doubt and fear,” he explained.
Marking his theatrical film debut, Christian artist Chris Tomlin serves as executive producer. He first joined the project to contribute a song but soon felt a deeper connection. “It was one of those moments where God was putting it together… I’m putting the pieces together — and you don’t even know it,” he shared.
The film’s release aligns with Lent, offering audiences a cinematic journey leading to the crucifixion. Shot in Morocco, it brings an earthy realism to the disciples’ struggles, highlighting their emotions as they grapple with faith and loss.
By shifting the perspective from Jesus to his followers, “The Last Supper” provides an intimate look at devotion, doubt and redemption — offering a fresh take on a timeless story.
